A Card For JCKL Members

This card works differently: you must already be a member of the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur (JCKL), a community organisation for Japanese residents in KL, before you can apply.

Once you're a JCKL member, though, the card itself doesn't cost you anything to hold. There's no joining fee, no annual fee, and even a family (supplementary) card is free, a combination AEON doesn't offer on its regular cards.

In exchange for that membership requirement, you get rewards that look a lot like AEON's Member Plus Gold card: cashback on AEON shopping plus AEON Points, but with travel perks reserved for AEON's higher-fee cards, including lounge access for both the principal and family cardholder, and a sizeable travel insurance payout.

Cashback Reward On Purchases

The day-to-day rewards are simple:

  • 8% cashback on purchases at AEON and AEON BiG on Thank You Days, the 20th and 28th of every month
  • 1 AEON Point for every RM1 you spend, redeemable as cashback at a rate of 200 points to RM1

Travel Perks Most Free Cards Don't Have

Both the principal cardholder and a family (supplementary) cardholder each get 6 free visits a year to Plaza Premium Lounge at major airports in Malaysia. You'll also get complimentary travel insurance automatically whenever you buy flight tickets with the card: up to RM1,000,000 for accidents while flying, and up to RM500 if your flight is delayed.

On top of that, you get a virtual card which can be used the moment your application is approved, discounts of up to 50% at partner merchants covering shopping, dining, gyms, beauty, and hotels, and worldwide acceptance in Malaysia, Japan, and beyond.

No Joining Fee, No Annual Fee

Unlike most AEON cards, which waive the annual fee only if you hit a minimum spend each year, this card has no joining fee and no annual fee at all, for either the principal or family card, with no spending condition attached.

If you do carry a balance, though, the usual AEON finance charges apply: 15% p.a. if you've paid at least the minimum on time for 12 straight months, 17% p.a. for 10 or more months in the last 12, or 18% p.a. if you haven't hit either bar, calculated daily.

You get 20 interest-free days on retail purchases if you pay your statement in full and on time; cash advances don't get this grace period and cost 18% p.a. plus a 5% fee (minimum RM15) per withdrawal.

How To Apply

Before you apply, make sure your Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur membership is already active; you can register at jckl.org.my/how_to_join if you haven't yet. Beyond that, the eligibility rules are straightforward:

  • Principal cardholder: 21 or older. Family (supplementary) cardholder: 18 or older.
  • Minimum annual income of RM48,000.

If you're on the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme:
